Generally, any version in the earlier release can be upgraded to the new feature release. In most cases, the recommended upgrade path is shown below. Sometimes, an upgrade path requires installing an intermediate version to the final intended release. Identify which version is currently installed, identify the upgrade path, and read the related documentation before downloading and installing a later version. Perform upgrades during non-business hours to minimize downtime for users.
Note: Only a user with the role Admin can update firmware images on devices. The software running on a sensor, gateway, ERC, or plugload is called a firmware image. Each device has a specific type of image that is replaced when a firmware image is upgraded. After downloading the required firmware image files, add or upload the firmware image files to Manage. Refer to the article Add Firmware Image Files.
You can then either perform a manual firmware upgrade or schedule an automatic firmware upgrade for sensors to occur on specific days and times for multiple floors at a time.

All approved sensor firmware image upgrade paths for sensors are listed in the Firmware Compatibility List. This file determines if you can upgrade the sensors to the new version. A warning message is displayed if you try to upgrade sensor firmware via a path that is not in the Compatibility list.
Before upgrading any sensor image, download and add the Compatibility List to Manage.
