The fixture database maintains and tracks the most complete, up-to-date, manufacturer-specific information about Fixture Types such as name, type, number of ballasts or bulbs, voltage, etc. Navigate to Administration-> System Management -> Fixture Type Management. The list of fixture types is displayed allowing you to add or manage the various fixture types.
The fixture database is organized into three categories:
- Ballasts: See Add a Ballast
- Bulbs: See Add a Bulb
- Fixture Type: Add a Fixture Type. This article describes adding a Fixture type.
Things to know before adding a Fixture Type:
- Specify the Installation Type: The type of sensor installation impacts accuracy location since the measurement of the beacon signal varies with distance to the ceiling or fixture-anchored sensor. If the sensor is used as a solution for Location Intelligence or Space application, this information becomes critical to the application, so it can provide accurate location details.
- Add a fixtured or a fixtureless sensor to the Fixture database.
Adding a Fixtured Sensor: Sensors that control lights in the fixture.
Adding a Fixtureless Sensor: Sensors that collect streaming data for Enlighted applications such as Location Intelligence and Space. Any Enlighted SU-5E sensor when not connected to a fixture is a fixtureless sensor streaming data. Typically, the Enlighted Surface Sensor, SU-5i-USB, is used as a fixtureless Desk sensor. - Add a Desk Sensor (Product: Surface Sensor, SU-5i-USB Fixtureless sensor). Learn how to add a Desk Sensor and enable it for reporting real-time occupancy data.
Sensor Installation Type
The type of sensor installation impacts accuracy location since the measurement of the beacon signal varies with distance to the ceiling or fixture-anchored sensor. When an application such as Space or Location Intelligence uses both fixture and fixtureless sensors, the accuracy depends on the type of sensor installation type.
The Enlighted sensor can either be integrated into the fixture or mounted external to the fixture. Here are the four most common ways to distinguish a fixture type installation.
- Not Enclosed – The sensor is not connected to the fixture. For example, sensors mounted to the ceiling tile. Refer to the Micro Sensor or High Bay Sensor Install guides.
- Partially Enclosed – The sensor is mounted external to the fixture. For example, sensors mounted external to the fixture without metal backing.
- Fully Enclosed – The sensor is integrated into the fixture. For example, sensors mounted external to the fixture with metal backing.
- Unknown – Sensor Installation Type is not known.
Refer to the corresponding section based on the type of sensor you are adding.
Adding a Fixtured Sensor
Fixtured sensors are used for lighting. To add a fixtured sensor, navigate to Administration-> System Management -> Fixture Type Management. Select the Fixture Type tab followed by the Add button.

In the Add Fixture Type window,
- Type a name for the fixture type.
- Do not check the Fixtureless box.
- Choose the ballast and the correct bulb information. If the ballast or bulb does not exist, you will need to add it to Manage. See Add and Manage Fixtures.
- Set the voltage.
- Select Fixture Installation Type. See Sensor Installation Type for details.
- After you have entered all the details, click Add to add the fixture type to the database.

Adding a Fixtureless Sensor
The fixtureless sensor increases the sensor density in a facility collecting data and improving the accuracy for Enlighted applications, such as Location Intelligence and Space, for indoor location and mapping for asset tracking and occupancy-based utilization.
To add a new fixtureless sensor, navigate to Administration-> System Management -> Fixture Type Management. Select the Fixture Type tab followed by the Add button.
In the Add Fixture Type window,
- Type a name for the fixture.
- Check the Fixtureless box. The remaining fields become non-editable as they are no longer applicable.
- Choose Install Type. For fixtureless sensors, the sensor installation type is unknown. See Sensor Installation Type for details.
- After you have entered all the details, click Add to add the fixtureless type to the database.

You have successfully added the fixtures to the database.
Adding Desk Sensor
Note: The Desk sensor (Surface Sensor, SU-5i-USB), a type of fixtureless sensor, used for detecting and streaming occupancy status, is already preconfigured as a Fixture Type in the Manage Fixture Type database. You only need to enable it. Refer to the article Enable Desk Sensors.

Recommended articles:
- By default, the fixtures added to the database are not assigned to a facility, and so the next step is to assign the Fixture Types to a facility. Refer to the article Assigning Facility to a Fixture Type.
- When assigning the fixture type to a sensor, only the fixture types assigned to the facility must be displayed in the drop-down list. See how to Assign Fixture Type to Sensors for displaying the Fixture Types associated with that facility.
