Overview

In order to continue receiving product updates, Enlighted recommends that all systems perform an Operating System (OS) upgrade. This article describes the procedure for upgrading the OS for mid-range and standard Manage systems.

Upgrading the operating system for Cloud-hosted (EMC), and Enterprise (EEM) systems require Enlighted Support's involvement.

Checking your Enlighted Manage Compatibility

Only perform an OS upgrade using version 4.1 or later.

The following device configurations require additional steps when upgrading the operating system of the Manage application. Please contact Enlighted Support if any of the below apply to your system, you have any questions, or require additional help.

  • All system upgrades to Enlighted Manage in the Cloud (EMC) systems must be performed by Enlighted Support.
  • Operating system upgrades for EEM system must be performed by Enlighted Support.
  • Customers running the 3.9.12 Ubuntu 18 version, please contact Enlighted Support prior to the upgrade.
  • On-premise Manage installed on an MSI box (purchased prior to 2016) may not support the OS upgrade.

Prepare to Upgrade:

Before starting to upgrade the OS, make sure you have the following three requirements:

  1. Manage running 4.1 with Ubuntu 14.04

If you are not sure what version of Manage you are running, log in to Manage with your username and password. The version number is displayed on the top right corner of the screen after you log in.

If the system is currently running a pre-4.0 version of Manage, a user with the ‘Admin’ role will need to upgrade the system. Refer to the article Upgrade Manage Server Software for details.

The version will also display the Ubuntu operating system version currently active on the machine, as shown above. For example, v4.1 Ubuntu 14.04.

2. ISO file for Manage v4.1 supporting Ubuntu 18.04

Please contact Enlighted Support for the ISO image.

3. Enlighted Manage Backup data

Warning: It is highly recommended that you back up your data on Manage before starting the upgrade process as a precautionary measure. If for some reason, the Ubuntu upgrade process fails, you can restore Manage with the backup. Refer to Backup and Restore Server Configuration and Data.

Upgrade OS to Ubuntu 18.04

Upgrading the system OS includes a backup and restore of all data after the successful OS upgrade. It should take 15-20 minutes to complete the OS upgrade, plus the time it takes to backup and restore the data. The time to backup and restore will depend on the amount of data on Manage.

Note: Manage will be offline during the upgrade process, and you will be unable to use the system until the process is complete. Upon completion, you will be prompted to re-log in to Manage with your username and password.

Only users with the ‘Admin’ role can perform system upgrades.
