Overview
The EnOcean battery-less, energy harvesting switch uses the 2.4 GHz Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio standard to pair with sensors to control a group of fixtures and scenes. This article describes how to install an Enocean switch.

4- and 2-button EnOcean Switch (N.America)
The EnOcean switch is available in the following two models for Europe.
- EnOcean Switch Single Rocker, 2-button, Model: EWSSB
- EnOcean Switch Dual Rocker, 4-button, Model: EWSDB
4- and 2-button EnOcean Switch (Europe)
Installation
Prerequisites
- Decide where you want to mount the switch, perhaps near the door entry or exit.
- Before mounting the switch to a wall, for proper assembly, make sure to align the “Top” labels on the rocker pad and wall plate.
- If you have disassembled the switch or the components fell apart, the switch components must align to the button contacts State 0 and State I marked on the switch module when assembling the switch. The Switch Module should be mounted so that the "I" label is placed above the "O" label. See Troubleshoot Tip:
The EnOcean switch can be surface mounted or installed flush over an existing wall box.
Surface Mount Installation
Step 1: Remove the wall plate from the rocker pad.
Step 2: Mark two small dots to align the top edge of the mounting plate using a leveling tool and pencil.
Step 3: Mark the screw drill points on the wall.
Step 4: Drill holes for the wall anchors with a 3/16” drill bit and insert wall anchors.
Step 5: Insert the top screws loosely and level the backplate.
Step 6: Insert the bottom screws and hand tighten the top screws.
Step 7: Attach the wall plate on top of the rocker pad using the two screw holes.
Note: For proper assembly, make sure to align the “Top” labels on the rocker pad and wall plate.
Flush Mount Installation
Note: When installing over an existing wall box, make sure any bare electrical wires are capped. Where local building codes require the use of UL-certified wall plates, please replace the provided wall plate with a certified wall plate made of plastic. Metal wall plates are not recommended, as they would reduce radio coverage.
Step 1: Remove the assembly screws which hold the wall plate, rocker pad, and mounting plate together.
Step 2: Use a tool to open the rocker pad free from the backplate carefully. The backplate is not used for this option.
Step 3: Mount the rocker pad over the existing wall box using the two screw holes.
Note: For proper assembly, make sure to align the “Top” labels on the rocker pad and wall plate.
Step 4: Attach the wall plate on top of the rocker pad using the two wall box screw holes.
Step 5: Insert the trim plate tabs in the bottom slots, and then lightly flex the plate to insert top tabs.
Switch Control
Pressing buttons on the switch may have different effects depending on the sensor’s state and values programmed in the fixture profile. Performing the procedure described in adding the switch to the sensor network and creating a switch group adds the switch to the Enlighted network and associates it with a fixture group. You can then test to see if the switch buttons function as given below.
4- and 2-button Switch Control for North America and Europe Models
When fixtures are configured for Tunable White, buttons three and four have additional functionality to increase or decrease the color temperature.
Range Testing
The Bluetooth for ExRPB or EWSxB has a range of 10m communication within an indoor environment. Thus, the switches with plastic frames have a very low influence on the range factor.
Note: The Bluetooth range is limited for wall penetrations, especially for Ferro-concrete walls.
Magnets
A built-in electromagnetic harvester energizes the ExRPBs. Therefore, please do not place the magnet underneath the module.
Troubleshoot Tip:
The EnOcean switch has three components: the Rocker, Central plate, and the external frame. In order for switches to operate as described, Enlighted recommends not to disassemble the switch. However, if you have disassembled it or the components fell apart, the switch components must align to the button contacts State 0 and State I marked on the switch module when assembling the switch. The Switch Module should be mounted so that the "I" label is placed above the "O" label. Otherwise, the switch buttons may not operate as indicated. The figure below shows the three components and the arrangement of the button contacts.
