Motion Trails

For Partners and Customers.

As smart sensors collect occupancy data in the spaces, proprietary motion tracking algorithms monitor the patterns of motion caused by people walking or staying still. Motion Trail considers data from neighboring sensors, unlike the Motion Animation or Heatmap visualizations derived from individual sensor data. The motion pattern from one sensor area to the next is used to generate local motion trail patterns. Darker shades such as orange or red indicate a greater number of individuals moving around those spaces than lighter shades such as green or yellow. The maps provide a relative view of the data, not an absolute depiction of data.

The color map shows a relative visualization of movement by people on a floor based on occupancy. The data is available every hour and can be viewed over time to identify trends. It may take up to five minutes for the application to obtain sensor data and generate the motion trail for the requested duration.

The data provides managers valuable insight into how spaces are used or not used. By identifying traffic patterns and creating motion trails, managers can track where employees arrive and leave and how they move through space. Retailers can use the motion trail information to track aisle traffic or how moving product affects traffic patterns.

To view Motion Trail on a floor, click the Buildings tab in the navigation bar, choose a building, and select View Visualization in the Actions column.

  1. Choose a floor.
  2. Click Motion Trails.
  3. Select a start and end date. You can select a maximum range of 30 days in the calendar.
  4. Choose a day of the week from the drop-down list.
  5. Choose a start and end time.
  6. Click Apply.
