Add an Area

A floor can contain one or more areas and sub-floors. Since floors and areas usage may change over time, it may be necessary to add, edit, or delete areas on floors. For adding sub-floors, see Add a Subfloor. When areas and sub-floors are added, they get added beneath the parent floor of the facility. This article describes how to add areas to the floor. The system admin or a facility admin may add new areas to a floor in the facility.

Area – An area is a grouping of devices such as sensors, gateways, switches, plug loads, on a floor represented as a single entity for controlling the behavior of lights in an area.

The top portion of the screen contains floor details, and the lower part includes an edit region with the list of existing areas.

To add an area, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the floor in the facilities' navigation panel.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Scroll to the Details section.
  4. Type the name of the new area and describe the area. When an area has been activated as a zonal sensor area, the area starts reporting consolidated occupancy status information from individual sensors. Otherwise, occupancy data is not reported by the sensors. Refer to the article to Enable Zonal Sensors.
  5. Click the Create another area button to add a new area to the floor. The new area is added to the list of areas.

After an area has been added to the facility, you must assign sensors to an area. See Assign Sensors to an Area.
