Plug Load (PLC) (PC-01-20)

Download the Plug Load Installation Guide.

Guidelines:

  • Install the Plug Load near the outlet or the load they control, and they must be wired properly to the outlet.
  • Place the Plug Load in the electrical closet or near an electrical panel for easy access and visibility.
  • Install the Plug Load within the gateway's wireless range and close to any sensor of the group they belong to.
  • Plug Loads need to hear from only one sensor and do not need to hear from all sensors in the group.
  • The controlling sensor should belong to the same motion group to which the Gateway is assigned. Make sure the sensor is placed near the closet.
  • For floor outlets, the Plug Load must not be buried under the floor.

Overview

The Enlighted Plug Load Controller (PLC) transforms receptacles in 20A circuits to controlled and metered smart receptacles for energy-efficient and code-compliant plug load control. The device is paired with a sensor or a group of sensors in the network to enable occupancy-based control. The controller features two sets of wires to power separately controlled and uncontrolled outlets to measure energy consumption on both uncontrolled and controlled circuits separately.

Plug Load Controller and Locknut

Installation

Shipped Components

  • Plug load controller (and ½ inch locknut)
  • MAC address sticker

Tools You May Need

  • Wire stripper

Supplies You May Need

  • Wire nuts (or connectors)
  • Junction box (j-box)
  • Two Conductor plus ground 12 AWG solid wire cable
  • Three Conductor plus ground 12 AWG solid wire cable
  • Clamps

Caution

A qualified electrician must perform installation and maintenance following local, state, and national electrical codes (NEC) and requirements.

Junction Box Installation

Step 1: Punch out a ½ inch knock out from the j-box and insert the threaded end of the plug load controller. Secure the plug load controller to the j-box with the supplied locknut.

Step 2: Main Feed - Feed the j-box with (3) 12 AWG conductors. (Hot, Neutral, and Ground)

Step 3: Connect the j-box with (4) 12 AWG conductors that run from the j-box to the receptacle wall box. (Hot, Switched Hot, Neutral, and Ground)

Step 4: Using wire nuts (or wire connectors):

  1. Connect the hot wire from the main feed to the black wire of the plug load controller.
  2. Connect the neutral wire from the main feed to the plug load controller's white wire and the neutral wire that feeds through to the receptacle.
  3. Connect the red wire of the plug load controller to the switched hot wire that feeds through to the receptacle.
  4. Connect the blue wire of the plug load controller to the hot wire that feeds through to the receptacle.
  5. Connect all ground wires to the j-box.

Receptacle Installation

Step 5: Break the connection on the “hot side” of the receptacle between the two outlets.

Step 6: Connect the neutral wire to the neutral connection on the receptacle.

Step 7: Connect the switched hot wire to the hot side of the “controlled outlet”.

Step 8: Connect the hot wire to the hot connection of the “uncontrolled outlet” (always powered).

Step 9: Install the receptacle in the wall box.

Step 10: Attach a receptacle faceplate that distinguishes the controlled outlet.

Step 11: Attach the included MAC address sticker on the faceplate.

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
LED is not on when the device is powered

1. Check to see that power is present from the circuit panel.

2. Check the wiring, if LED does not come on, then replace the device.

LED Description

LED Status

Description/Solution

LED not on

No Power, check power connection

Slow Blinking Green

Normal PLC Commissioned

Continuous Blinking Green

Immediately boot and uncommission.

Slow Blinking Red

Check for wiring errors

Continuous Blinking  Red

Commissioning error, RMA and delete the PLC from Manage, rediscover PLC and commission or replace unit.

Red and Green continuous blinking

Booting time should be less than 5 seconds

Note: If both green and red LEDs stay on continuously for more than 10 seconds, replace the unit.
