Enlighted products are continually evolving with new features; hence, Enlighted recommends users to upgrade to the latest hardware. Enlighted does not offer support for the Discontinued parts nor for any firmware or hardware associated with these parts. For a list of discontinued products or suggested replacement parts, please refer to End of Life Products, and Replacement Parts if any.

This article describes upgrading from Gen 2/3/4 to the new Gen 5 (SU-5E) sensors with the Control Unit (CU-4E-FMH), which includes three main steps:

  1. Upgrading the hardware: Identifying the old components and replacing them with the new hardware devices.

  2. Installing the new Gen 5 sensors

  3. Replacing and commissioning the new sensor in Manage

If upgrading to the newest SU-5 sensor technology, we recommend users to replace the Control Unit too (if it is CU-2 or CU-3), with CU-4E-FMH and corresponding cables as they are not compatible with the new SU-5E technology.

If using CU-Nipple Mount (CU-4E-NME or NMI) for N. America, or the DALI Fixture Mount Control Unit (CU-4D-FM) with SU-5 sensors, please refer to the Gen 5 Sensor Cables for Control Unit (CU-4E/CU-4D) for compatible parts.

1. Upgrading Sensor Hardware

Enlighted offers three Gen 5 8-pin sensors: Microsensor (SU-5E), High Bay (SU-5S-S), and Ruggedized (SU-5S-xRx) sensors. The following sections describe how to upgrade from Gen 2/3/4 sensors to Gen 5 sensors.

1.1 Upgrading from Gen2/3/4 to Gen 5 Microsensor (SU-5E)

If you are using either a CU-2/CU-3 with SU-2O/SU-3E/SU-4E Microsensor,

replace it with the following configuration:

  1. Control Unit (CU-4E-FMH) with

  2. 7-foor or 30-inch Sensor cable (CBL-5E-CU4-7F/CBL-5E-CU4-30N), and

  3. Micro Sensor, 8-pin, (SU-5E) (IoT/Connected Lighting)

1.2 Upgrading to Gen 5 High Bay Sensor (SU-5S-H)

If you are using either a CU-2/CU-3 with an old Gen 2/3/4 Smart Sensor,

replace it with the following configuration:

  1. Control Unit (CU-4E-FMH) with

  2. 7-foor RJ445 cable (CBL-RJ45-RJ45-7F), and

  3. High bay Sensor, 8-pin, (SU-5S-H) (IoT/Connected Lighting)

For sensor installation instructions, refer to High Bay Sensor, 8-pin, (SU-5S-H).

1.3 Upgrading to Gen 5 Ruggedized Sensor (SU-5S-HRW)

If you are using either a CU-2/CU-3 Control Unit with an old Gen 2/3/4 Ruggedized Sensor,

replace it with the following configuration:

  1. Control Unit (CU-4E-FMH) with

  2. Ruggedized Sensor, 8-pin, (SU-5S-H) (IoT/Connected Lighting)

NOTE: To extend cable length, connect CPL-RJ45 (or standard CAT5e coupler) to RJ-45 end of the above cable and connect standard RJ45-to-RJ45 straight-through cable of the desired length between CPL-RJ45 coupler and CU-4E.  It can be purchased readily. The maximum cable length between an Enlighted SU-5 sensor (SU-5E or SU-5S) and CU-4E control unit can be up to 300' CAT5E cable.

2. Sensor Installation Instructions

Remove the old unit before installing the new unit. After the new sensor is installed and powered, then commission the sensor in Manage.

Refer to the following install guides to install the sensor:

  1. Microsensor (SU-5E) Install Guide

  2. High Bay Sensor (SU-5S-H) Install Guide

  3. Ruggedized Sensor (SU-5S-xRx) Install Guide

3. Commissioning the Sensor in Manage

Refer to the instructions in this article for Replacing a Defective Sensor in Manage. After you replace or upgrade the sensor, please allow few minutes for the new sensor to sync with the existing sensor profile and configuration.

Note: If user is performing RMA/Upgrade for a sensor that is supposed to perform the Cross-gateway Flexi Button mapping/ Cross Group motion group then the user may wait for 10 to 15 mins for the new sensor to upgrade.

Upgrading a Gateway

The new Gateway Part number to order is GW-2-02. Refer to the Gateway Installation Guide to install it.
